Hiking On Kaua’i
HIKING ON KAUAʻI Hike the Beauty of Kauaʻi! The hiking on Kauaʻi is as diverse as the island’s rich heritage. We have the option to hike through lush rainforests, along sunny coastlines with crashing waves, or high above the dramatic cliffs of Waimea Canyon and the majestic Nāpali Coast, with sweeping views in all directions. These hikes and vistas are on and off the beaten track and range from easy overlooks to strenuous and steep. No matter the difficulty, these are special places that will leave your mind and spirit in amazement. At Kauaʻi Hiking Adventures we offer more than just an activity, we offer the memories that great vacations are made of. Memories that last a lifetime. Some of the best hikes in the state of Hawaii are on the island of Kauaʻi: Waimea Canyon/Waipoʻo Falls Kōkeʻe State Park/Awaʻawapuhi and Nualolo Ridge Alakaʻi Swamp/Kilohana Overlook Kuilau Ridge Trail Sleeping Giant Hanakapiʻai Falls Powerline Trail In order to accommodate our diverse clientele, we offer hiking tours to a multitude of destinations and of various length and difficulty. Here are some of the areas we traverse: Nāpali Ridge Tops – Hike highland ridge tops high above the exquisite Nāpali Coast to sweeping vistas of the valleys below. These hikes commence at high elevations which means cooler temperatures, and unique flora and fauna. Canyon Rim – Hike along a canyon rim to awe-inspiring views or descend to the canyon floor to experience one of a kind nature. Waimea Canyon has been nicknamed “The Grand Canyon of the Pacific” while there are some similarities in the look – Waimea Canyon is far more diverse, colorful, and accessible then the mainland version. Coastal/Beach Hikes –Stroll at length down a secluded beach, far beyond the tourist zone, and explore tide pools, sea arches, and other phenomena that result from millions of years of ocean meeting volcanic earth, teeming with birds, aquatic life and earth creatures great and small. If you’re lucky you’ll encounter sea turtles, albatross, Hawaiian monk seals, whales, dolphins and more. Waterfall Hikes – Kauaʻi is speckled with waterfalls and swimming holes. Some an easy stroll from a car, others nestled more deeply in the islands interior.

Island Survival Skills
We will meet at a roadside fruit stand off of Kuhio Hwy at 8:30 am. The fruit stand opens at 7:30 am – if you get there early you can order coffee, a smoothie, or something for breakfast. From the fruit stand we will caravan about 10 minutes down the road to a parking area next to our activity location – an undeveloped stretch of coastline with access to the beach, ocean, and coastal forests. Once there, we will circle up under the shade of ironwood trees to introduce ourselves and check in about what we will be doing for the next several hours. Activities will vary depending on weather conditions that day and the interest of the group. Potential topics include: 1) Survival fire making 2) Nature observation & wildlife tracking 3) Nature meditation & observation skills 4) Foraging for food and studying medicinal or otherwise useful plants 5) Rope & cordage making 6) Survival shelter building 7) Primitive fish & animal traps 8) Water procurement & filtration 9) The art of camouflage 10) Survival pack essentials Throughout this experience we will invite you to use your senses to tap into the rhythms of nature – fine tuning your innate observational skills to pick up on the, at times subtle, information nature is always giving us. These might come to you via a new sight, sound, smell, and/or sensation. At noon we will circle up again for a check-in / closing circle.Highlights

Such an awesome day! Our guide took us on hikes and to places only locals know about. Despite the Waimea Canyon overlook being closed for renovation, we got to see the whole canyon and more. It was awesome! Highly recommend.

This was by far our favorite part of visiting Kauai. Our guide Nick was amazing, knowledgeable, and took us on an amazing adventure. He gave us options on different things we could do and let us decide what we wanted to see. Would definitely book this again and see even more sights.

Loved our hike. Jerry did a great job giving us information about the island. We did the 3 hour tour and got to see a lot. The trails, beaches and some Hawaiian monk seals. Would recommend this tour.

We had a great time hiking with our guide, Flip. He was knowledgeable on all things Hawaii and all things Kauai. I loved hearing the origin of the words, information about the people and culture and historical events. All of this, including info about the nature and plants and valley we were hiking to see kept me occupied not only on the trek there but on the way back too! He took some amazing photos of us and despite the downpour, I would do it all again. Thanks for loaning your rain gear to my crew. I saw the goosebumps on your arms! We loved the view and I even loved the hike despite my wet feet. Flip even brought us treads for our shoes which kept us safe and upright!

We absolutely loved our time with Jeremiah. He knew so much about the island that even when the weather was not cooperating he could pivot and make the trip still really fun. He also knew so much about Hawaii as a destination and a tremendous amount about nature. We learned so much. As a sign of how much we enjoyed our day with Jeremiah.. we actually invited him to join us on another tour we were doing later in the week. That is how fun he was to be around.

What an amazing day with Nick! He brought us to some stunning views that only a local would know of, a hike where could see the beautiful Nepali coast for most of the hike, and filled our bellies with a delicious local poke lunch. He was so knowledgeable of the indigenous plants and history of Hawaii. We couldn’t not have asked for a better guide or day! Anne and Chris will definitely be back!

We had a wonderful day with Jeremiah in Koke'e State Park and Waimea Canyon with great views on trails we would never have found ourselves. We learnt a lot about Hawaiian birds, trees, plants and found a letter from the Menehune 😉. Jeremiah is a kind and friendly guide and very passionate about Kauai 's Landscape and nature.

We just finished an 8 hour private tour with Jeremiah. It was AMAZING. Our party consisted of 8 adults, ranging in age from 28 to 61. He picked us up at our hotel in a comfortable van and off we went towards the Napoli Coast, and into Weilea Canyon. Jeremiah's knowledge of all things Kauai really made the trip. But what sets him apart from other tours we have taken was his knowledge of weather conditions and how they would effect our visit. Kauai in December ihas very unpredictable weather patterns. Once Jeremiah realized our original plan would be shrouded in fog, he quickly suggested two alternatives and away we went. The hike he took us on was breathtaking. No other folks around. His patience with my slow pace never ended. He made the 3 hour hike pass quickly as he showed is his deep knowledge of the native plants, history of the area and suggested best ways to tackle the rugged terrain. He even knew enough to have us pre-order our yummy lunch at the Koke Lodge so we would not have a long wait after our hike. I highly recommend this comapny.

We could have used All Trails to go on another crowded hike, but I’m so glad we hired a guide. We had long stretches where we were the only people we could see on the trail. Our 3-hour private hike on Kauai’s North Shore with Meghan from Kauai Hiking Adventures was fantastic! She was super friendly and knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about Hawaii and Kauai’s history as we soaked in the incredible scenery. Meghan’s passion for the island really showed, and she made the hike both fun and meaningful. It was the perfect mix of learning, exploring, and just enjoying the beauty of Kauai. Highly recommend.

If you are scrolling in search of an unforgettable “guided hike” in Kaua’i you can end your search here! My hike with Jeremiah was epic not only in the ground and sights covered but also in the depth of knowledge shared. Each step of it was multi-dimensional and ripe with story, insight, botanical/birding expertise, history and/or life experience from a masterful guide. With a thoughtful start, discerning middle that gauged my stamina and interests, and culminating to a most memorable end, there was care and customized intention to the hike. It added textures to being within a geography than seems impossible for one guide to communicate so effortlessly. I left my hike all the more rich for the time and investment made. I highly recommend this opportunity to anyone who wants to truly be immersed within all that makes this island magical.

My sisters and I were on a very special vacation together, and reserved a hike in the jungle. Our guide, Nicholas, was amazing!!! His love and enthusiasm for Kauai and for the history of the area was contagious and we learned so much about the culture and geography of the island. Nicholas was super well-prepared, and had hiking poles (the thing we didn't have!) for each of us, which really helped. We set the pace, and he didn't have any agenda except for our enjoyment of the area. We would highly recommend this hike, AND Nicholas!

I had an amazing and unforgettable time hiking Kauai with Jeremiah as my private guide. From the very beginning, he made sure I was fully prepared in-advance, taking the time to explain all necessary preparations and precautions for the hike—from the right gear to the trail hazards and unexpected cold/rain/wind. His patience, experience, and deep knowledge put me at ease at every step of the way -- literally. He custom-tailored my tour to what I was looking to get out, while taking full account of my comfort and fitness levels. In my case, he took me to some of the most breathtaking spots on Kauai that I’m convinced only seasoned locals like him have hiked personally and know about. No amount of online research, videos, books, etc. could have led me to what were once-in-a-lifetime experiences for me. Immersed in the wild habitats of Kauai, surrounded by nature in its purest form, I even got to taste wild fruits and spot endemic birds & plants along the way. Jeremiah’s expertise made me feel connected to the land, and I couldn’t have asked for a better guide. If you want to experience Kauai in a rare way, don't hesitate to book. If you're already an active person, you MUST!

Jeremiah and Stephanie were great. As some told us after we did the tour - “The best”. We agree they were great. They know the secrets of the island. The people of the island are great … the worst part of this guided tour, like our trip, is that we didn’t have more time to ensnare our soul. I suspect we’ll be back sooner rather than later. Thank you again!

Thanks to Kauai Hiking Adventures and our guide Flip, my kid and I found ourselves on private treks to sweet north shore coastal spots we'd never find on our own, doing things we'd never do on our own. Meeting ancient turtles in caves, hiking slopes with ropes, eating petals, and sitting in a warm tide pool with nibbling fish, while hearing the lore of the islands was transportive. We completely trusted Flip who floated along, helping us when things got a bit deep and slippery, making us braver. So much gratitude for sharing your beautiful home with us!

We did the South shore hike with Sequoya. It was fabulous! We are not avid hikers and she was great finding the easiest path. We saw the sinkhole, some African tortoises, blowholes and beautiful views! She is very knowledgeable about flora and fauna as well as Hawaiian history. She ended the hike with cold water and the most delicious pineapple. All my kids had a great time. Would not hesitate to book another hike with her!

Awesome private tour company. Great communication when booking the tour. Was able to book a Sunday tour which meant very little traffic going around the island. Our guide, Maluhia, was great. Picked us up at our condo on the north side, drove to a bunch of great spots to take pictures and learn about Kauai. Lunch at the Kokee Lodge was delicious (try the loco moco). Definately worth the price to have a private tour and see the island without having to be in a bus with a lot of people. If you are looking for a private tour company, this is the one. Highly recommend.

Our hike leader ‘BRIGHT’ - super cool guy with mustache + ponytail and signature hang loose hand gesture in all of our photos - was AWESOME. We did a challenging day hike in Waimea Canyon over Thanksgiving vacation. Bright was an expert on biology, natural history, flora + fauna and Hawaiian history. He was SO enthusiastic about the local ecosystem. He was incredibly solicitous + gracious with us, tailoring the hike and pace to our group’s abilities. He’s been everywhere, was in great shape (far better than us!) and has many outdoor talents to share (surfing, hiking, skiing, camping, kayaking, local dining). Logistics + meetup + communications with Kauai Hiking Adventures were a breeze, simple and easy to follow. We will be back! Highly recommend Bright + Kaui Hiking Adventures!

We spent almost 2 weeks in Hawaii (Big Island and Kauai) and this was definitely a highlight! Jeremiah was a fantastic guide. Great communication before hand. We met him at a designated spot and then hopped into his car and he drove up into the canyon. We stopped by the lodge for bathroom break and to order our lunch ahead of time so we would not have to wait on line later (something you can do only because they know him.) He then took us on a hike that he basically discovered from his vast experience of hiking so we were the only ones there. It ended in the most spectacular view. That took up most of the morning. We then went back to the lodge where there was a table waiting for us (despite if being very crowded) and enjoyed lunch. The afternoon was spent seeing some of the more travelled views but of course Jeremiah always knew the best places to view. The whole time he took lots of pictures and videos of us and air dropped them to us at the end of the day. If you enjoy hiking, this is not to be missed.

We’re pretty experienced hikers and campers, so we really debated whether we even needed a guide for our 4 day/3 night Kalalau adventure, but boy was it worth it. Chris was perfect: he upped our backpacking game; was a true guide in every respect, whether navigating the sometimes disappearing valley trails, sharing his impressive store of historical, cultural, or natural info, and even foraging incredible wild fruits; and let’s not forget the 5-star camp cooking that put ours to shame (e.g., coconut curry with fresh veggies anyone?). Let’s just say he whipped up a makeshift charcuterie plate while we swam beneath waterfalls in otherwise deserted river pools surrounded by palms, century plants, and gardens of wild ferns. And then there was the fire on the beach while we watched the full moon rise over the mountains. He took care of so much of the grunt work of camping that we could really enjoy this (possibly) once in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend!

Jeremiah tailored our trip to make it a perfect experience for us.It is clear he has abundant knowledge of Hawaiian culture and the natural flora and fauna and imparted that knowledge to us in an interesting, engaging and unintimidating manor. He is passionate about keeping the island as pristine as possible and appears to "give back" to the community in many ways to ensure this happening. Both of our hikes with Kauai Hiking Adventures were unique, interesting, informative and personally customized to our interest and ability. Anita was so kind, professional and enthusiastic in making sure we had the best possible experiences with this company.I cant say enough good things!! Mahalo

Our guide, Nicholas, tailored the day for our desire to experience a lot of Kauai, not just one long hike. It meant we got to also experience Kauai traffic, but also Na Pali, Waimea Canyon, a beach picnic and a jungle hiking to a falls where we could dive in. It was a great day, and Nicholas played a huge role in its success.

We did a 3 day camping and hiking trip on Kaua’i and they took care of everything! Jenny was a great guide and picked us up from our hotel and had all of our supplies, camping gear and food ready to go. She took us to all the great spots and tailored the trip to fit our skill level. We had great meals and learned so much about the island and Hawaii culture. Would highly recommend!

Andrew is amazing. What an incredible young man. My granddaughter and I spent the entire day hiking with Andrew. WE did three or four different hikes, two of them were pretty challenging, once we had to wear crampons. Andrew kept us safe, knew great places to enter the trails, found us trails that folks didn't know about. Helped us thru difficult edges. The views were amazing. It was a memorable day and Andrew is the best. He brought us lunch, any equipment we needed, he had on the van. WE loved our day. If you really want to see area's you'd never see otherwise.....book with Andrew.

Andrew was great communicating with us from the start. There's absolutely no way I would have completed either of the hikes we did if we didn't have a guide with us. I was the weaker one of the group and wanted to wave the white flag several times, but I'm so glad I pushed through. Andrew lent me hiking sticks which really helped. We saw beautiful waterfalls and Waimea Canyon plus the Napali coast via a spot that reminded us of what Mars terrain must be. Andrew was great and knew the ins and outs of the best views. I'm sure if we didn't have him along we would have spent have our time trying to navigate and decide where to go. We loved our hiking experience!

I've been wanting to do this hike for several years now and finally had this amazing opportunity! Andrew was our guide and was outstanding! He had done this unmarked hike over 150 times and knew the trail by heart. My husband and I are avid hikers and rarely hire a guide unless it's strongly recommended. There would of been no way to do this hike without a guide. It was 8m RT and took us 7.5 hours with lunch and playing in the falls. (normally we hike 5km/hr with elevation change) It is a technical trail with a lot of rock hopping, water crossings, bushwacking and enjoying nature. At the falls, you can drink the water and enjoy your lunch. I would highly recommend this company and would definitely use them again.

I wanted to find hikes on Kauai that my wife and I could safely and comfortably do so I hired Kauai Hiking Adventures after investigating many of the other options and talking with Andrew by phone a month before the trip. My wife and I spent the day with Jenny who got us to a spectacular view of the Napali Coast, took us on a beautiful hike in Waimea Canyon and to a great lunch spot before figuring out a final hike that my wife was comfortable with. Jenny taught us about the flora and fauna of the island as we hiked and gave us a local perspective on life on Kauai that we really appreciated. While the full day hike seems expensive, we felt it was worth the price since we had immediate access to so much knowledge about the island through Jenny. Highly recommended.

What better way to celebrate your 50th birthday than to hike Kalalau...what it's still closed?? Yes, unfortunately as much as I had hoped and prayed that Kalalau would open before I got to Kauai, it did not happen. :( Luckily I had found Kauai Hiking Adventures and after reading the reviews, decided to call them. Andrew knew right away the type of experience I was looking for and what it would take to achieve it. He helped me plan my hiking adventure by lining up the right hikes, gear, and camp sites for 3 full days and nights of hiking and camping. He even helped me store my additional luggage - thanks! My hikes included Kalepa, Wiliwili, and Nu'Alolo. Camp sites included Sugi Grove, Wiliwili, and Polihale. He lined me up with my guide Jenny who helped fill in the rest of the details including making sure that I stayed safe by helping me make the best possible decisions due to storms that hit Kauai during my trip. I can't thank Andrew enough for helping me plan and achieve a very memorable milestone birthday! I came to Kauai a backpacking novice, and left a Mountain man. :)

I cannot say enough good things about this experience. But here's a start:I traveled to Kauai to do some solo hiking/camping. One of the main reasons I selected this island was for the "blue hole/weeping wall/ mt Waialeale" hike. Seriously, if you haven't heard of it - look it up. Unfortunately, due to storms, we had to postpone the hike for a couple of days. Given that I was flying out the next evening, I reconciled with the fact it wasnt looking like I was going to be able to do this hike... until I was told to contact Nectar, one of the few guides willing to do that particular trek. We met up shortly before 7am the next morning, and started driving towards the trails. Unfortunately, as we turned onto the road leading to them, we saw that the storm had resulted in many fallen trees blocking our way. Disheartened, and thinking that we wouldn't make it after all, Nectar went into the back of his truck and pulled out a chainsaw (and a sawzall-chainsaw for me) stating that he picked these up anticipating forest debris and knowing how much I wanted to do the trail. I kid you not, we spent close to 3 hours chainsawing trees blocking our path just so we could reach the trail head. - If that isn't going above and beyond, I don't know what is! -I was fearful of the possibility that since we were starting the hike several hours later than expected, that we would not be able to complete the hike in its entirety (reach the weeping wall). However, we slipped on our tabis (grippy shoes for hiking up river) and ended up completing the hike in record time (about 5 hours).I have been to a lot of beautiful places, but wow. The views were spectacular. 5000 ft lush, green cliffs with countless waterfalls. Constant roaring water. (See pics). Nectar was very knowledgeable about the terrain, the plants, and the birds we encountered along the way. It made for a very enjoyable time! Cannot thank Andrew and Nectar at Kauai Hiking Adventures enough for this incredible experience.-Lisa

My fiancé and I booked Andrew for a half day hike, and it was the best decision ever! The day was very much customized to our wants (mountains and waterfall) and fitness level (good workout). We began the day with several great hikes and ended it with a waterfall jump. Along the way, Andrew provided such personable conversation and unique facts about the land. He even brought along some coconuts for us to enjoy fresh coconut water. I was thoroughly impressed from start to finish and would happily recommend Kauai Hiking Adventures to anyone!

We contacted Andrew last minute and he set us up with our awesome tour guide Jenny. She was great with our 2 kids ages 11 and 9 and took us on a fantastic hike at Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park. It was perfect for our family and she was extremely knowledgeable about local wild life pointing out edible fruits so our kids got to eat right off the trees! We had a chance to swim at a beautiful waterfall and Jenny was so nice about taking amazing family pictures for us. This tour company customizes their tours so you could easily see how they would plan something easier for families or more challenging for more experienced hikers. We planned this last minute but it was one of our favorite days so far! Highly recommend this tour company -

If you want to do some of the best trails on Kauai, I would highly recommend using a guide, and particularly this company. I did a private hike with Chris in to waterfalls l would have otherwise had no way of finding. This island has SO many waterfalls and amazing sights, but trails (if there is one) can be unsafe if you don't know what you expect or where to go. The most incredible places are often not found at the end of an easy, well beaten path. Don't be stupid just to get a view when there are people out there like these guides who know how to get you to your destination safely AND with happy memories of the trek there, rather than miserable ones! 100% will be doing another next time!

I went for two day hikes with Kauai Hiking Adventures. The booking was very smooth over email with Andrew. My first hike was with Chris who took me to couple of hikes in Kokee state park and Waimea canyon. Both the hikes were amazing and I couldn’t have found the hikes on my own. My second hike was with Makana who was very friendly and informative. We couldn’t go on the planned hike that day because of rain, but he took me to a hike in the southern part of Kauai with breathtaking views. He was very knowledgeable and made sure I was comfortable throughout the hike. I would highly recommend this company and would definitely go with them again when I visit Kauai!

If you want to do some off the beaten path hiking in Kauai and see some spectacular views you really need to hire a guide for the best experience. We contacted Andrew at Kauai Hiking Adventures and he hooked us up with our guide Jeffrey. Jeffrey spent some time talking to us about what we’d like to see, and explaining our options to us so we could choose a hike or hikes that best suited our fitness and experience levels. He made it very clear how strenuous or challenging each option would be so we could make well informed decisions. The hike we chose was absolutely spectacular, challenging but so worth the effort! Jeffrey was knowledgeable on a wide range of topics and also offered many helpful tips on hiking technique that kept us all safe on some of the trickier parts of the trail. We managed to finish the day with some beautiful sunset views and then a great view of the total lunar eclipse from the Waimea canyon lookouts! A perfect finish to a perfect day. I would highly recommend Kauai Hiking Advetures to anyone looking for a truly unique hiking experience!

I recently took a hike with Chris, originally scheduled with Andrew, but due to our schedule we had to rearrange dates and they were most accommodating. We did a full day hike, two sons in college and me and my sister in our 50s. Views were beyond gorgeous of the Na'pali Coast and of the Waimea Canyon. Chris drove us to places that most people would not get to see. A great untraveled lunch spot overlooked the canyon, and hikes that were a bit nervy but worth the time and intensity. We all survived and my college son wanted to hike more! I call that a success and a great day. Thanks Chris!

As a meeting planner holding scientific meetings on the beautiful island of Kauai, I discovered Andrew and would not even consider using anyone else for our hiking tours. He is amazing and throughout the hike constantly assessing people’s abilities and making adjustments along the way so no one is left out or pushed beyond their comfort zone. Everyone has raved about him and his team. He is the best!

WOW. Kauai is breathtaking - seen from a boat, seen from a helicopter... but nothing compares to seeing it up close on a hike! We decided to book with Kauai Hiking Adventures after learning that the Kalalau trail was closed. Because we weren't familiar with other routes on the island and were only staying on Kauai for 3 days, we wanted someone to direct us to the absolute best spots. Enter: Jenny. When you book with Kauai Hiking Adventures, you specify what you're looking to get out of your day. We wanted a good workout, mountain views and waterfalls... and we got a good workout, mountain views and waterfalls! Jenny took us on two different hikes: one where we swam in a waterfall, and one where we saw the most stunning views of the Napali coast - exactly what we wanted! She's also lived in Kauai for a number of years, so she was able to tell us a lot about the island and the culture of its people, which my husband and I found very educational. Importantly, though, she didn't talk AT us the entire time. She struck a good balance of acting as tour guide, engaging in conversation and letting us enjoy the peace and silence of the trail. I felt like we were hiking with a good friend by the time we got to the second trail! She really maximized the little time we had to hike, and she made sure we were comfortable and safe the entire time. (My husband and I are active, but we aren't super experienced hikers - she pushed us outside of our comfort zones a couple times, but never to a point where we felt panicked or unsafe. And without her, I know we wouldn't have seen half the views we ended up seeing!) Thank you, Jenny, for a truly unforgettable experience! Highly recommend booking with this company!

Only a week before our vacation I learned that the North Shore Of Kauai past Hanalei is closed due to severe flooding about 6 months ago. This meant that the hike on the Napali coast to Hanakapi`ai Falls was closed. I scrambled around to find another good waterfall hike and I heard/read about a hike to Makaleha falls. A lot of reviews say this hike is hard to find so I decided to hire a guide and got lucky that Andrew was available on short notice. Andrew was an excellent guide, came well prepared, kept my teenage daughters engaged as he had conversations with each of them, and helped everyone along. He brought correct footwear for everyone as this is a serious water/river hike for which hiking boots would not cut it. I can’t say enough good things about Andrew. He even chooses his meeting places carefully, as the restaurant/coffee shop we met at was one of the best places we had breakfast on our trip. We told Andrew which hike we wanted to to do. You can do that, but also ask him about hikes he suggests and their appropriateness for your group.

My partner and I just finished a three day camping/hiking trip with tour guide Chris. I can say that without a doubt it was the best thing we have ever done. Our guide Chris picked us up at 9am on day 1. He was incredibly welcoming and made us feel very comfortable right away. Through out our three day trip Chris took us to some of the most spectacular view points and provided the most delicious food. Along side of this, Chris was very knowledgeable about the islands flora and fauna. We were always kept in the loop about the weather and the different things we could do that day. The camping gear provided was of high quality, comfort and clean. I literally cannot reccpmened this company enough! 10/10 for hospitality, experience and overall enjoyment.

I have wanted to hike the Blue Hole for years, but have read horror stories about people being caught in flash floods and getting lost. I followed reviews on Trip Advisor and booked the hike with Kauai Hiking Adventures. I'm so glad we booked the tour through them, not only did they have safety equipment, including a satellite phone, but they also provided Tabis, the hiking shoes with felt on the bottom to hike up wet rocks. I also had anxiety about the hike, having read reviews saying this hike is 22 miles, however, the hike is more like 6 ish round trip? My tracker read 5 miles exactly to the Blue Hole one way, but I think my GPS tracker got lost and was just hitting on the rock walls. That's not to say the hike is easy, we had some bruises and scrapes. Being from Colorado, we didn't think there was much elevation gain, and we felt pretty hydrated just because of the location where we were hiking. This hike was a once in a lifetime experience, and it was worth every penny. Andrew was great with setting everything up and coordinating with us including what to wear and how much food and water to bring. Chris was a great guide. The jungle is extremely dense, and we were so glad we hired a guide, sometimes we would lose sight of each even though we were only a few feet apart. I think we met around 6:30am the day of the hike. Chris drove us over the pretty rough 4wd road to the Jurassic Park Gates which was about 45 minuts. We started the hike around 7:30 ish. I think we got to Guardian falls after about an hour, hour and a half. We made it to the Weeping Wall after about another hour, hour and a half. We stayed at the weeping wall for about an hour. It took us about two hours to get back. By the time we were heading back, I felt like our shoes were gettting more slick on the rocks, and we were getting tired coming down. Besides the breaks, I think it was about 3-3.5 hours of hiking up, and two hours of coming down the mountain. It sounds pretty easy, it's not that easy, but it also is not worthy of the horror stories I read online. I would highly recomend this hike and company, and we will use them again next time we are in Kauai!!!

Andrew was a fabulous guide and took Andy and I on two short hikes with the most stunning views and experiences of wonderful and unique trees and plants. I only wish we had had more time. This was the most amazing trip I've ever been on. As a solo traveler, having a guide is really great. Chris was professional but very friendly and helpful. He is very knowledgeable about the island. It was like spending 3 days hiking with a friend that does all the work.

We booked two two hikes with Kauai Hiking Adventures in Dec 2018. We had hiked with them before in June of 2016. Andrew was our guide then and we requested him again. I can't say enough about the adventures you will have when you hike with Kauai Hiking Adventures. The first hike gave us spectacular views of the Napali coastline. It was spectacular. Words can't describe the beautiful scenery. December is part of the rainy season and the trail was very slippery but Andrew made sure we had the equipment we needed to stay safe. He gives you many interesting facts about the island and local area along the way. For the second hike we had Chris and again this hike was challenging but he made sure we had the shoes that we needed to complete this hike. The highlight was a double waterfall where we could all go swimming! We had the falls all to ourselves. It was truly a highlight of our trip. I have used this company twice and I would highly recommend them. Their hikes are very challenging but the reward is worth it.

A group of four us wanted to explore Kauai by doing some "simple" hiking. Our guide Jenny truly listened to us and selected a hike that we could handle as we are a bit older (60's) and not experienced hikers. Jenny was extremely informative and was able to give us a lot of information about the island and the nature surrounding it. We saw some beautiful sights and enjoyed our hike to a waterfall where we could take a quick dip. In addition to the hike Jenny took us to some overlooks that were spectacular of the Waimea Canyon. We also enjoyed the small place we stopped at for lunch. This was a fun day for us and we appreciate all that Jenny did to make this day so special for us.

We utilized Andrew's services on September 24th. We are advanced hikers from AZ, know how to read a map, research an area for the best trails, and prepare by being physically fit and having the right gear, but also know from experience that it is always best to tap into the knowledge and expertise of a local. Andrew was great at communicating prior to the hike, met us on time and came prepared with the right equipment and snacks. He made a difficult trek easier with special equipment and we were envied by others as we easily navigated the steep and slick conditions. We were blessed with great weather which made the day even better with great visibility. After a gorgeous hike overlooking the NaPali Coastline, we ventured into the jungle for our second hike that ended at a spectacular view point with a double waterfall spilling into several pools. We made a few quick stops for special view points at Waimea as we were focusing on the NW side of the island. We were also pleased to find out that Andrew spent high younger years in AZ, went to a very esteemed college prep, and has a college degree, so he is not just a hiker but a businessman who wants to build his business, so is serious about making sure his clients have the best experience and recommend him so his business continues to grow. We are hoping to come back for more Kauai hiking and will definitely give Andrew a call and refer him to all our friends.

We hiked the Awa'awapuhi Trail with Jess yesterday, and it was such an incredible experience. We met at a cute little coffee shop and had some breakfast before starting on our adventure. Jess took us up the canyon road and stopped along the way for us to site see and take pictures, all the while telling us cool stories and bits of history. We made it to the trail head around 9:30 and started hiking in. We made pretty quick time hiking in because 90% of the trail was downhill. Jess was great about pointing out different plants and things as we hiked, and we even got to try some wild local fruit she found for us (strawberry guava and Indian raspberries). When we arrived at the cliff's edge, she was awesome about giving us some direction on how we should get to the bottom. She also got some fantastic pictures for us!Going up was much slower than coming down, and we took several breaks. The patience and encouragement was much appreciated. After all the cardio, Jess took us to a beautiful scenic picnic spot to eat our much-deserved lunch.Next time we visit Kauai, we will most definitely be reaching out to Jess and Kauai Hiking Tours to take us on another adventure!

My family and I were traveling on the NCL Pride of America and got caught in Hurricane Lane forcing all of our excursions to be cancelled. I found Kauai Hiking Adventures online and contacted Andrew late in the evening to see if he had anything available for the next day. He was able to fit us in with Megan for a 6 hour tour. She was AWESOME!! So knowledgeable about the island and took us on a great hike and then to some beautiful waterfalls where we were able to swim and jump in, and we definitely won't forget about the coconut, that was so awesome. She was really sweet and very accommodating. We would definitely use this company again. Thanks for the great memories.

We absolutely enjoyed our 4 day hiking and camping experience with Kauai hiking adventures, and specifically with our guide Chris. We hiked through most of the island, and camped at unique places every night. One night we slept high up in the mountains at Kokee state park, while on another we slept under the stars at a remote beach (Polihale state park). The trails themselves were tough but totally worth it. We'd hike through the morning, reach an amazing view point and set up picnic there. Having lunch literally amidst nature, with beautiful views, in the middle of nowhere. Felt like we were living on the edge of the world. Chris was an amazing guide. He was very flexible and tweaked around with the itinerary to make everyone feel comfortable. He also motivated us when required. To top it all, despite us being vegetarians, he cooked us some amazing food! (miss the "White boy curry" and breakfast pancakes)Another highlight of the hikes were the Hawaiian anecdotes and stories that Chris shared with us on every trail. Each trail had some story to it, and listening to them made us feel more connected with Hawaiian culture. All in all, the 4 days allowed us to live like Kauai locals, in the lap of nature, enjoying everything best that the island has to offer. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Kauai. Hiking is the best way to explore the island, and doing it with Chris made it all the more better.

Andrew was our tour guide for a fantastic day of exploring in Kokee and Waimea Canyon state parks. He customized our day based on our family of five's capabilities. We got to see the more popular parts of the parks but also a secluded trail that led to amazing vistas. We did not encounter one other hiker on the entire trail! Andrew was flexible, knowledgeable, and very personable. We enjoyed the entire day. Highly recommended!

My husband and I booked a hike with Chris and it was hands down the best part of our entire trip on Kauai. Chris was extremely knowledgeable and knew the trail very well. He was cautious and knew exactly what to look for to ensure that we were safe at all times. This was my first big hike and I was a bit anxious prior, but I felt very comfortable a few minutes in. The views are absolutely incredible and the fall and swimming hole at the end make it all worth it. Can’t recommend enough!
