Why take this tour?

Enjoy the Best Hikes on Kauaʻi

On this longer and equally sweet day (3 – 6 hours), we will maximize our time together. Options include:

Checking out one of our favorite hiking and/or waterfall spots on the East Side of the island such as Nounou Mountain (a.k.a. Sleeping Giant), Kuilau Ridge with views of Mount Waiʻaleʻale, and more – the east side of the island has amazing waterfalls and lots of green luscious jungle scenery to adventure into. A coastal stroll along the South Shore or North Shore of Kauaʻi to check out crashing waves and/or native wildlife.

Depending on your group’s desires and skills, we take you to as many amazing locations and delve as deep into the Kauaʻi outdoor experience as time allows. Half-day hikes are perfect for a family visiting Kauaʻi with young children who are looking to get out and have an authentic adventure in nature. You will have an opportunity to discuss your specific interests and ability level directly with your guide before the tour.

Please keep in mind that tour durations begin when you meet your guide until you part ways. If you need a pick up and/or drop off this extra driving time, including traffic, should be incorporated into the duration of tour you select. If this is an issue for you, you may want to select a tour area closer to where you are staying.

Book our “Full-Day Kauaʻi Adventure”  if you want even more time to explore (in most cases your tour can be extended, and the price can be adjusted accordingly after your tour, if you let us know during the tour).

Like all of our trips, our Half-Day Kauaʻi Adventure is customized for you, as easy or as difficult as you would like in the time you have selected. We are happy to provide suggestions on the best hikes on the island – book today to start planning your unforgettable Kauaʻi adventure!

Private Scenic Helicopter Tour + Waimea Canyon Hike (Fly Both Ways)

Experience Kauaʻi’s most exclusive land-and-air adventure. This fully private tour combines two breathtaking helicopter flights with a customized day of hiking, sightseeing, and exploration in Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe State Park. Your journey begins with an 8:00 AM private helicopter departure from Princeville Airport (7:15 AM latest check-in). Soar above Hanalei Valley, Waiʻaleʻale Crater, “Jurassic Park Falls,” and the island’s interior before landing at a private West Side airstrip, where your expert hiking guide awaits. Spend approximately 7.5 hours exploring the dramatic landscapes of Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe. Choose how active you want the day to be: gentle forest walks, panoramic canyon rim lookouts, hidden viewpoints, or more adventurous ridge trails. An optional stop for lunch at the historic Kōkeʻe Lodge is available. Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe are home to some of Hawaiʻi’s most spectacular scenery—towering canyon walls, high-elevation forests, sweeping Nāpali Coast vistas, native plants, and rare endemic birds found nowhere else on Earth. Your private return flight in the afternoon provides a spectacular finale, tracing the canyon and coastline you explored on foot and offering a final aerial sweep of Kauaʻi’s wild beauty.

Island Survival Skills

We will meet at a roadside fruit stand off of Kuhio Hwy at 8:30 am. The fruit stand opens at 7:30 am – if you get there early you can order coffee, a smoothie, or something for breakfast. From the fruit stand we will caravan about 10 minutes down the road to a parking area next to our activity location – an undeveloped stretch of coastline with access to the beach, ocean, and coastal forests. Once there, we will circle up under the shade of ironwood trees to introduce ourselves and check in about what we will be doing for the next several hours. Activities will vary depending on weather conditions that day and the interest of the group. Potential topics include: 1) Survival fire making 2) Nature observation & wildlife tracking 3) Nature meditation & observation skills 4) Foraging for food and studying medicinal or otherwise useful plants 5) Rope & cordage making 6) Survival shelter building 7) Primitive fish & animal traps 8) Water procurement & filtration 9) The art of camouflage 10) Survival pack essentials Throughout this experience we will invite you to use your senses to tap into the rhythms of nature – fine tuning your innate observational skills to pick up on the, at times subtle, information nature is always giving us. These might come to you via a new sight, sound, smell, and/or sensation. At noon we will circle up again for a check-in / closing circle.
